Evolution to 6G networks and their transformative potential in communications

Abstract

With the impending saturation of 5G networks, this study examines the evolution towards the sixth generation of mobile communications (6G), highlighting its transformative potential in key sectors. Through a systematic literature review of recent scientific literature (2019-2024), fundamental technological advances such as the use of terahertz spectrum, native integration of artificial intelligence, and distributed computing were identified. The results show that 6G will enable applications such as haptic telepresence and remote medicine, but it also poses risks such as the widening of the digital divide and ethical dilemmas related to privacy and algorithmic governance. The study concludes that the development of 6G should not be conceived only from a technical perspective, but as a structural transformation that requires inclusive and ethical regulatory frameworks for an equitable and sustainable implementation.
