Play as a strategy in teaching children in early childhood education: A systematic review

Early childhood education is considered the fundamental pillar of comprehensive human development. Therefore, the use of strategies, specifically play, has revolutionized traditional teaching methods. Therefore, the objective of this article was to analyze the importance of play in early childhood education in order to identify its contributions to cognitive, social, and emotional development through a bibliographic review. A qualitative methodology was used: a descriptive bibliographic or documentary review. In addition, inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied to scientific articles, books, theses, reports, etc. It is concluded that play applied to early childhood education generates significant benefits not only for learning but also for the comprehensive development of children, as it strengthens cognitive, social, and emotional skills, the latter being crucial for their adaptability to the environment. Play as a strategy is key because children learn in a fun and entertaining way, leaving aside traditional teaching, which was boring and often causes students to give up on continuing their education in the future.
