Abstract

This review explores the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on the personalization of online education, addressing its applications, benefits and emerging challenges in diverse contexts. Through a systematic literature review of recent studies, key tools such as intelligent tutors, recommender systems, learning analytics and conversational agents are identified. These technologies allow content to be tailored to individual needs, improving academic performance, student motivation, autonomy and active participation. However, challenges related to data privacy, algorithmic bias, transparency and equity of access remain. The study concludes that, although AI can significantly enrich virtual learning environments, its use must be guided by ethical, pedagogical, cultural and contextual criteria that guarantee a responsible, inclusive and effective implementation in current and future educational scenarios.
