Digitalization is a key factor to enhance the competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in globalized contexts. This study conducts an exploratory literature review of recent literature to identify how the adoption of digital technologies influences the operational efficiency, innovation and business expansion of SMEs. It was found that tools such as ERP, CRM and automation improve internal management, reduce costs and increase agility to respond to the market. In addition, digitization drives new digital products and services, promotes e-commerce and allows customer service to be personalized, facilitating competition in global markets. However, barriers such as lack of resources, digital skills and resistance to change persist. It is concluded that digitalization is a multidimensional strategic enabler that requires a comprehensive approach to maximize its competitive impact.
