Relación entre la salud mental y la incidencia de enfermedades metabólicas

El presente estudio analiza la interrelación bidireccional entre la salud mental y las enfermedades metabólicas, evidenciando una convergencia de factores fisiopatológicos, conductuales y sociales. A través de una revisión bibliográfica sistemática en bases de datos científicas internacionales, se examinaron investigaciones publicadas entre 2010 y 2024 que abordan esta temática desde enfoques interdisciplinarios. Los hallazgos indican que trastornos como la depresión y la ansiedad incrementan el riesgo de padecer condiciones metabólicas como la obesidad, la diabetes tipo 2 y el síndrome metabólico, y viceversa. Se identifican mecanismos comunes como la activación crónica del eje hipotálamo-hipófisis-adrenal, la inflamación sistémica de bajo grado, el estrés oxidativo, la disbiosis intestinal y las alteraciones en la neurotransmisión y la epigenética. Estos elementos sustentan un modelo integrador que exige un abordaje clínico conjunto, superando la fragmentación entre salud física y mental. Se concluye que el tratamiento simultáneo es necesario para mejorar el pronóstico clínico y promover estrategias preventivas en salud pública.
