Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of the use of mobile technologies on the development of cognitive skills in young people through a systematic review of scientific literature published between 2013 and 2024 in indexed databases such as Scopus and Web of Science. Using a qualitative and exploratory approach, the negative effects and potential benefits associated with the use of these devices were examined. The findings reveal that excessive and unregulated use can negatively affect functions such as sustained attention, working memory, inhibitory control and memory consolidation, especially multitasking and nighttime screen exposure. However, significant benefits are evidenced when the use is controlled and for educational purposes, such as the strengthening of processing speed, working memory and logical-visuospatial thinking through video games and digital applications. It is concluded that the impact depends on the context and conditions of use, so a critical pedagogical integration that favors youth cognitive development is proposed.
